I am a Licensed REALTOR® and am interested in the JEA Realty™ Brokerage or
I am interested in becoming a Real Estate Agent
Consider Becoming a Real Estate Agent
People decide to become real estate agents for many reasons. Many like
to work with the public. Some want to be in control of their own
schedules. Others are interested in buying real estate for themselves
and think that agents have access to "the best deals."
No matter what your motivations, take a little time to become familiar
with the realities of being a real estate agent before you jump in and
become licensed. Joining the right Company for you will also determine
your level of success.
Planning to Work Full Time or Part Time?
Like any career to be successful takes an investment of your resources
including both time and financial. Certainly a full time commitment to
anything will provide for a more efficient and effective ramp up, but
many new Agents begin working part time. You should know this approach
is difficult and requires extensive organization to be successful.
Working with the right Broker and Company is critical to being
successful either full time or part time. Some Brokers are not
interested in part time Agents, as all Agents, be they full time or part
time require the time and effort of the Broker to make certain they are
trained properly. If you have 3 months of earnings banked you should be
able to start full time off the bat and get a leg up on your career.
For some, that is not feasible. At JEA Realty we accept part time
agents recognizing they may have family commitments that limit their
ability to work full time in Real Estate but they are non the less
productive when they follow the plan. We help you learn the information
required to get your license and train you to meet the objectives that
we set together.
Time Resources
Most client contact is evenings and weekends. You can make your own
hours and you should not allow clients to control your time--it's as
valuable as theirs--but there will be many occasions when you can only
show a home or take a listing appointment in the evening, or when a
weekend is the only time you can write up an offer. If you're committed
to success, you'll do the work. How much time is also up to you. You
will sit with our Broker and layout a plan of action that will help you
meet YOUR goals in Real Estate. We use proven techniques in today’s
market place, which by the way is quite different than even 5 years
ago. If you follow the plan, you will have every chance at success.
The plan starts the day you sit with our Broker to talk about your
interest in a Real Estate career.
Financial Resources
The reality is, it takes money to make money. A Real Estate career is
no different. Many Real Estate Companies require an up front financial
commitment from you before even starting the training process. We are
different. There is no charge for our Corporate Training. We believe a
well trained Agent will be the most effective and successful Agent.
There are some costs that every Agent, at some time will be responsible
for:
- Pre-licensing school costs
- Licensing exam fees
- Fees to join a local Multiple Listing Service (MLS)
- Fees to join a local Board of Realtors (usually in conjunction with the MLS)
- Ongoing fees for local real estate boards (quarterly or monthly)
- Expenses of doing business, which vary depending on the agency you
choose, and can include all of your postage, phone calls, copies,
advertising and much more
- A dependable vehicle
- Additional auto insurance to cover increased liability for business
passengers
- Gas expense
- Increased mileage that lowers your vehicle's value
- Errors and omissions insurance coverage
- Optional training to learn effective sales methods or to acquire
special certification
Some of these costs are burdened by JEA Realty as we invest in your
success. For instance when you agree to work with JEA Realty we provide
your initial set of business cards so you can immediately get started.
We help prepare the your marketing materials. We have NO desk of
ongoing office fees. There is a huge difference in how Brokers
operate. We focus on the individual, and that includes our Clients and
our Agents.
It's Not Just Sales
Good real estate agents don't "sell" real estate. They help people find
and acquire properties. There's a big difference in those two concepts.
Being an agent is more like being a combination detective, counselor,
and coordination expert.
- Detective because you have to find the perfect property...but,
- You won't know what your people are truly looking for unless you're a
good counselor.
- Once you've made the sale, you'll shift into coordinator mode to get
the deal closed.
- And back to counselor if problems develop along the way.
Approaching a real estate career as purely a sales job--where you get
the contract and then leave them hanging--just doesn't cut it. Sure,
you'll sell some houses, but will your clients tell their family and
friends that you did a great job for them--or that you simply wanted to
make a sale?
Referrals from past clients make a good real estate agent's income grow
each year. It takes hard work and dedication to get those referrals, so
plan to stick with each job to its completion.
